Has anyone installed marble counter tops in their kitchen?

Question:I am awash in a sea of misinformation, between what I read about the durability of marble and what the salesman tells me. Is Carrera marble harder than others? Is it difficult to keep clean? Is it too soft for near the sink & stove? Does it stain easily? I guess what I'm asking is.what's the worse that can happen?

Answers:
Honestly, marble is not a good choice for a kitchen, it is a softer stone. this 'softness' makes it more luxurious to the touch, and thererore better for bathrooms.
some people still use if for countertops, though.
I reccomend Granite. with a lot of chinese and mexican quarries comming on line, the price is dropping, from $50 to $75 a square foot installed.
Corian, Sorell or Hymaks are good looking, durable man-made alternatives that are attractive aned reasonably priced.

The above answer is correct. Marble is not a good choice for the kitchen. Although the salesman said that Carrera is harder than others (which may be true), but "harder than the others" does not necessarily mean good. Marble is a softer stone and more porous which can lead to stains and scratches. Since you're looking at marble, consider granite instead. It's just as beautiful as marble and it is available in a multitude of colors.
