What is the right way to paint an accent wall?
Question:We are moving into our first house and I am not sure how to paint with an accent wall. You paint 3 walls the darker color or the lighter color? And which one do you paint the ceiling? Help! Thanks!

You can do it which ever way you want, but usually most people do the darker color on one wall and lighter on the other three. Are your ceilings stipple (have the textured stuff on them??) if they are I would keep them white. If not I would do your ceiling the lighter color that you have chosen. If you do darker on the ceiling it could give the illusion that your room got shorter and feel like it is crowding you in. If you dont want to be too dramatic at first pick the lighter shade for the three walls then use the same color on your accent wall but three or four shades darker than the original color.
When it comes to painting or any other decorating medium, every decision is subjective. In other words, whatever looks good to you is what you go with. As for what I personally like, go with the darkest color you would want for an overall look and then paint your accent wall a shade or 2 darker. Faux Painting an accent wall looks great, too. I'm getting ready to do this for the first time. I bought a soft sagey color for the three walls, and a darker sage for the fireplace wall. Just make sure your colors coordinate well & it should look really good.
well usually when painting an accent wall you want to paint the other three walls white and then a lighter color on the other wall and if you paint the ceiling the accent wall color then it will make your ceilings seem higher.
