Why are towels placed on the edges of bathtubs in hotels?

You're supposed to put that towel down just under the tub to use as a bath mat.
lol, maybe they want them to get wet so that you can't dry yourself and will be very uncomfortable. maybe dry yourself off with a blow dryer :)
you put that one on the floor to soak up the drips when you get out of the shower.
my guess would be because...that is where you use the towels most often. i would be kind of pissed if i had to hunt for it...looking under my pillow,the closet, or in the dresser drawers. edge of the tub just seems most convenient, being that is where i shower.
I've seen only one towel placed on the edge of a bathtub.I've always assumed that it is the towel that is placed on the floor, similar to a bath rug.
those are bath mats. They are smaller in size and thicker than towels. They go on the floor to catch the water that comes out of the shower curtainso you don't slip on the tile floor. The towels will be hanging, folded or rolled.
That towel on the edge of the tub I place on the floor to help keep the floor dry when I get out of the shower. Then you know there's also a rack with towels on it I dry off with those.
The last hotel I was in had the bath mat for the floor laying on the rub. The towels were hung on a towel bar.
You mean a floor bath mat !!?
So you don't slip on your butt when you get out of the shower/tub !!
