Curtains wrong colour- how to tie in with room?
Question:Our bedroom is painted a red-wine shade and we have the same colour bed cover that is diamond patterned (embroidered) in gold, with a gold throw at the base of the bed. The throw has gold and wine tassels (this sounds quite disgusting, it's actually very nice). I just bought some new curtains that are described as "antique" colour- I guess they are a soft gold with more of a pearl base, whereas the bed 'gold' is very yellow gold. I can't afford to get any other curtains and I can't return them now I've ironed and hung them, so how can I get the two different golds to work? - cheaply! They are a similar tone.

You just need to work the new "curtain" gold as an element on your bed, and the bed cover gold into your curtains. Either find or sew ( out of the same drapery fabric.buy an extra drape to cut up ) pillows of different sizes, or bolsters to toss on your bed that match your drapes. Trim them with braid, tassels or trims that you can then use as tie backs on your curtains or as a hem detail or run it at the top or sides of your drapery panels. Try to find trims that also have your burgundy shade that would connect your two shades of gold.
Don't try to downplay the fact the two golds aren't quite the same. Instead try to find accessories in both colours of gold and repeat them around the room with the burgundy accent and it now will be a "colour scheme" not a mistake!

Could you replace the throw instead?
Otherwise, it doesn't sound like a huge problem. You've said they have similar tones. As long as they are in the same color family I bet it looks fine. Super matchy matchy rooms don't look good.
Try finding pillows that are the same colour as the curtains and by placing them on the bed, they can accent each other. You can also go to a fabric store and see if you can buy the matching fabric in some ways --dont have to be exactly-- and make your own pillows adding the pearly gold and a yellow gold trim to them. I think that it will actually look pretty good, and help tie the two golds together.
Drape the curtains with a matching gold colored tassel.Or a strip of matching colored material.Think it will come to you.Why let it worry you?Accents will do it.
