Correct paint to use on skirting boards?
Question:Hi
I started painting my skirting boards with an oil based satin finish paint, but it looks like a shiny "plastic" looking coating. Is there something more matt for wood available?
Answers:
I always use white gloss when im doing skirting boards. If you use a matt finish it will be harder to clean.
Dulux, ( I think it was) used to, may still do, a satin finish for wood, oddly enough called, satinwood :-) If I have wanted a satin/semi gloss finish, in white at least, I've mixed undercoat with gloss, in proportion to the level off sheen I need for the job.
most paint manufacturers make a matt finish oil based paint failing that undercoat them and finish with an acrylic matt varnish (will not turn the paint yellow)
You want eggshell not as shiny as gloss and hard wearing
Its because you purchased satin finish. there are many different paint finishes available. Check at your local store for lists and usually they have swatches that show the finished finish
gloss matt finish
