I need a cheap, easy, and quick way to create a brick wall?
Question:I'm trying to create an urban loft feel in my new home. I'm crafty and artistic but I do not have tools and am not necessarly "handy". So for the most part I am looking to do something fast, cheap, and easy.
I could paint it but would rather have something that looks real. I know there are real bricks that are cut to only 1/2 an inch deep but where do I get those and what am I really getting myself into? How much would this cost? How long would it take? How hard would it be? Is there an easier way to get the same effect?
The wall is about 20 feet wide and 10 feet tall.
Would I be better of hiring someone else to do this for me? How much would that cost?
Thanks!

The bricks you're talking about are decorative bricks. You can find them at Home Depot or any good home hardware large surface store. They are just like putting up real bricks, only you can put them on any surface because they are so light. That's their advangage. But you still have to lay the bricks. That's quite a bit of work.
If you don't want to get into that, then you should check out a store that has lots of choice as far as wallpaper is concerned. Not only is wallpaper back in style, but it NOW HAS STYLE! You won't believe the great brick wallpaper you can find now!
The best option though, is to use faux brick panelling. Here's a link to show you why:

Sounds like your gonna have a nice place! Enjoy it!
The brick facade would work well. I don't think the pieces are all that expensive, and for a 20x10, it shouldn't break the bank. Getting it INSTALLED and aligned properly, well, that's another story. There are fake brick facades that are in bigger sections, like bigger tile pieces. Also simple fabric with brick design. Depends on how much you can afford to spend. If you pay someone else, it'll run into the thousands for actual brick or the brick facade tiles. Labor either way. Good luck.
There used to be paneling that had the brick look. Not sure if it's still around or not. Check with your lumber yards.
You can do it with minimal tools and construction knowledge using one of these products http://www.outwatercatalogs.com/2006_mas... , http://www.fauxstonesheets.com/... I am not sure of the pricing, but I think it would be about $8 to $15 a square foot depending on which product you choose.
I just found my Outwater Plastics catalog and the faux brick and stone is $8.10 a Square foot.
check your local lumber yard/ building center, home depot, ect., there use to be tile like 12"x12", that look like brick, in any colors, i'm sure it is still available, it glues to the wall and is quite easy to install plus looks good. think the stuff was called "Z-BRICK"?? hope this helps.

4x8 sheets, should be a bit less than $35 per panel. You would need 7 sheets, so it should be under $250. The light colors will take paint with a bit of prep -- light sanding, Kilz or similar primer.
Z-Brick is a good product, somewhat time consuming and more expensive than the paneling. I have not seen it for sale for some time (although I do have a couple of boxes in my basement if you want to come get them). Checked the place I used to buy it and they don't have it listed anymore.
i have something u can do which would take creativity only w/ stencil. U need a brick stencil which I would try to get at Michaels or JoAnn Etc.. or online.
Use the brick stencil like u were gonna stencil but instead of using JUST paint... use contruction mud. Put it on then paint u'r colors that u would like to have the brick ( practice w/ paper or newspaper...& applied the colors w/ cut up sponges to get different shades of the colors after it is semi-dry )
Paint the inside the color that u would like to have the grout & u have a 3D brick wall.
I did it on mine but I also added Venetian plaster over it. Ppl. jst can't believe it's not real.
if u have any ?'s.. jst ask me... Have Fun!
I'd say it would look better if you did hire a professional; however, if you are on a tight budget, I'd try it myself. You can purchase that vinyl that looks and feels like brick from almost any hardware store.
