What sort of wood attracts termites?
Question:I'm always wary whenever I'm buying wooden stuff like furniture or book racks because I fear that termites or some other insect might grow on it and then I'll have to throw it out. How do I know whether the wooden item that I purchase will be termite-free for life? I'm just really afraid because I have a collection of books.
Answers:
Damp wood. So make sure your wood isn't soggy or wet for a long time. But you should be fine, because if the furniture is imported, it has to go through strick quarantine. Furniture is usually varnish or lacqure coated. I think that your risk of getting terminites from furniture is slim (unless you buy second hand outdoor furniture - maybe some then).
termites like all wood. as for the bookshelf issue,if they are that far up into you home, then your house would not be standing.
that kind that grows in the ground and you can burn.
Most of the wood that is untreated is loved by termites.
stop squaking call orkin.thats an old saying...there are so many different types of termites.you can see termites before they damage by obseving.they look similar to ants, some winged but they come from the ground so look outside for a trail going up into your house.some termites are called drywood termites, and there is not a whol lot you can do for them they are usually in the wood already.i dont think you need to worry to much about your furniture, you will see them elsewhere first.
I've never had problems with wooden furniture having termites but if you have a book collection---I'd be more concerned about silverfish. They can destroy books and they can go from having a few to an infestation very quickly.
