HELP with Hard Wood Flooring??
Question:I just pulled my carpets up in my living room to expose a beautiful hard wood floor, but there is dry rot and dirt on it. what is the best way to remove all that dirt with out scratching or scraping my floors up??
Answers:
You will need to replace the dry rot pieces and then sand the hardwood with a power sander and then refinish the floor. It will be messy but the outcome is worth while
your best bet will if sweeping and vaccumin doesnt remove it will be to try mopping. if it has been under the carpet for several years then you will most likley end up refinishin it to bring it back, good luck
If there is dry rot, you are going to be pulling the floor up anyways to repair it. Use a vacuum cleaner suction.and then a dry mop. The floor is more resilient than that.
pledge has a decent hardwood floor cleaner and use a semi-course brush to remove your stains. if any there may be very small surface scratches that can be easily covered up with waxing it with a little murphy's oil. had a similar problem myself. my floors look fantastic. don't know how severe your dirt and rot are but this worked well for me. good luck
Here's one guy's opinion about a similar situation. Maybe it will help.
