I have a dark red rug with white walls, birch furniture and a blue comforter. What are some good color schemes
Question:I Just moved into a new house. My bedroom has a dark red rug, almost burgundy, with white walls, and birch wood furniture from Ikea. I have two windows next to my bed. My comforter is a dark blue with white stripes from Nautica. My questions are:
1.What color can I paint my walls to match the furniture/redrug?
2.What are some ideas for curtains and decorations?
3.What are some themes/color schemes I can redecorate with?
Any other general knowledge on redecorating under these circumstances would be vey helpful as well. Thanks!

Answers:
You already have a red, white and blue color scheme going on - you can keep the walls white and add yellow accessories to make it a primary color scheme of red, yellow, blue. Accessories might be all in a nautical theme, like a picture of a boat on the water with a yellow hull, a yellow ceramic lamp, etc.
You can ignore the rug, paint the walls some kind of new/spa/gray type tone that looks good with your comforter and get a very modern, simple zen look.
You can paint the walls a red color that blends with your carpet, and replace your comforter with a solid white or off white, and get a print that is abstract red, white, black and a touch of your wood color.
Tie the colors together with a nicely framed print that uses your colors, repeats a pattern like the stripes, and has the same feel as your room = modern, I'm guessing.
it sounds like we r going nautical.. if so... Y not do u'r walls w/ wash faux finish. Do u want more of the red going in u'r rm or the blue? U can do stripes 1/2 way or chair rail way up then put a chair rail painted white or a border then paint the other part in the other color
I personally would do the bttm. part the dk blue or navy w/ white ..white rail or a natical border then the top part either a wash of shades of blues & throw red thru out u'r rm as accents.. pillows.. curtains.. etc. OR do the top part in a wash of reds.
If u want to tone it down a bit, then do the walls in a lt. 2 tone beige/tans/ tan w/ tint of yellow
Take ur fabric to a paint store & some stores u can screen them & get matches of colors that would go w/ them. To do u'r walls. Then p/u several samples of the colors u like then put them on u'r wall & look at them thru out the day & nt. That's how u will know which to pick.
If u go w/ solids or stripes .. u can do stripe curtains in the opposite color or accent color u pick. Picture frames in white to match the rail or in bedspread..
Or u could go towards some sports that u mite like. If u'r not likin the red carpet then stick w/ colors that will make u'r eye go towards than at the floor. U can always put throw rugs down.
If u like POP then go w/ oranges & yellows or even purple. Believe me they do go w/ red but mor u lean towards those accents & paint the more the red disappears.
hope that help a little
If you want a warmer, cozier feeling room you could go with a nice tan that is similar in tone to your furniture. Your furniture will then blend in with the walls, so if that bothers you you can pain an accent wall behind your bed either matching the blue in the comforter or the red in the rug.
If you want a cooler room, you can paint the walls a silvery blue or gray.
Have you considered an Americana theme? You can occasionally find Americana pieces that use muted red/blue rather than the primary colors.
A Nautical Theme?
I think a blue, white, and tan would be beautiful with accents of the red.
It doesn't necessarily have to be a theme. You can just choose items that you really like and go from there.
I'd definitely go with a crisp white (same as the bedding_ for the molding.
As far as the curtains goes, it may depend on the mood you're after. Do you want full length drapes? You could purchase tan or white drapes and sew fabric in red or blue to like the bottom three feet or so. You could go with a valance only and then get birch colored wood blinds.
This is a kids room, but it shows your colors>

Its your bedroom, so Im assuming you want to go there to relax? right?
So I say paint the walls a light blue(darker than baby blue) , buy pictures with burgundy, blue and white in them(preferable corresponding pics, so you can hang them over your bed next to each other)
Then add accessories like: a lamp shade with corresonding variations of the two main colours, preferably get white curtains(your walls are already blu-itll be too much to have colour curtains as well!)
Also remember its our space, what do you like?
All the best hope it looks wonderfull afterwards!!
