What's the best way to start planning out designing/arranging everything in my apartment?
Question:I understand what generally looks good in interior design, but I don't know where to start.. any pointers someone could give me?

I start by drawing an outline of the room and placing bigger pieces of furniture where they make the most sense. First go with the function of the room, then tackle the design.
i think u should start with ur hall and then go forward for other rooms because it the place where every one enters the house and observes it then u should go for ur drawing room then bedroom and then other rooms....
First take a trash can and throw out all that junk mail( shred).
Then get a box and take all your pictures off the walls.
Move all furniture into a bedroom.
vacuum
decide what your NEW colors are.
decide what you can keep from your box that will go with the new colors.
buy new rugs for all the floors.
choose one shade of furniture
give the rest to good homes.
return remaining furniture to rooms.
less is best.
buy an electric fireplace for warmth of design
( I found one at wal-mart for 99.00 and one at Cosco for 600.00 (thats the one I bought,its furniture and beautiful and warm in January lol!)
get mirrors in all sizes. add one to each room
add at least one shelf to every room.
buy green plants, especially an English Ivy
(my favorite ! )and place them on the shelves along with something peeking out like a tiny picture or a clear glass figurine
look through all those childhood pictures you have stuffed in a box... blow them up into at least 5x7 mat and frame ( in your new colors... or ALL black and white) and round out your rooms with them especially by the fireplace.
Last thing I can think of right now.hang new curtains or change the ones you already have through out your house.
I did my kitchen in red cherries red apples and a red tea kettle and red toaster
its a cute and warm home.
