Any redecorating color tips?
Question:I'm redecorating my bathroom.. and it's kinda small so i dont want to make it bright but i want it to have a really sophisticated & classy look. any ideas on what colors or other things i could use to make it look nice even though its smaller?
Answers:
I think that light greys are a very sophisticates look while also contemporary/modern. Either that or a greyish/blue White accents help both these colors pop. Silver/stainless also go great with this. So try the grey or greyblue with white trim and stainless accessories.
use aqua, blue, light green colors and try to paint horizontal lines along the bathroom, make it looks bigger.
If it's really small try picking a color you love and paint everything including the ceiling that color. When the ceiling is white or a different color than the walls, it breaks the space up making it appear even smaller than it is. Add some prints or posters you love and call it a day. Just 2 or 3 posters is all it ill take and the larger they are the better. Too many small details reduces the apparent space.
the classiest look i know is just black and white
not only are accents and basic items (like a soap holder, towels, paints, toothbrush holders) easy to find, it's pretty easy
if there's too much black somewhere, add a white soap dispencer or something
the walls could be white that fades into grey than black so it's not too bright but it's not dark
when it comes to your shower (assuming you don't have a bathtub) have white tiles and then you can make like a black diamond like this: dashes mean white B's mean black

-------B-B---
-----B-B-B---
---B-B-B-B----

obviously not the best diagram but hey, i didn't know how else to do it
now if you don't want such a cold feeling, because that's how neutrals feel, add accents of color
like green curtains over the window or a blue door or you could get a yellow shower curtain and then with that one splash of color, add small accents of that one color like candles so it'll automatically draw eyes
I find the more prints you have the smaller the area looks. If you have a solid color of paint and a shower curtain that has a large print or is a solid color, that seems to make the area look bigger. Also mirrors give the illusion that something is bigger. Try a larger mirror above the sink or one on the door. As for specific colors, what is the color of your tub, tile, and toliet? If you don't want to completely get rid of them, try a color that complements. If the tub and tile are a white color, paint the walls white and get a solid black shower curtain. Then you can add black cabinets. For accent colors, you can have red towels and a red soap dish.
I just moved and I had the same problem, a small bathroom. Because you plan to do your bathroom in a more classic style, I would keep the paint in the neutral family. The Laura Ashley paint line by Valspar has a color called Gold 4 that would be wonderful. You can purchase that paint at Lowe's. Then you can bring in a beautiful red or purple and it would be really elegant.
If you have neutral colored walls, you can bring in as much color as you would like. It's not going to change the size of the room. I have a dark purple and red shower curtain with gold scrolls and the movement actually opens the bathroom up more.
If you really want to keep it simple and classic, go to Lowe's or Home Depot and buy glass doors for the shower. This way you could choose not to have a shower curtain if you didnt want one.
If you want to get really classy and sophisticated, I would bring in a combination of red, black, and gold. You could also substitute the black for a nice dark blue.
Croscill Home Fashions will have a wonderful array of accesories for your bathroom. Actually, Wal-Mart, Target, and TJ Maxx will have accessories and decorative items that would fit into your bathroom decor.
The rule for painting the ceiling is that if it is under 8 ft, do not paint it.
To make a small bathroom appear larger, use light colors when choosing paint. Add a mirror or two...they don't have to be big. Use a light colored shower curtain (with a small pattern) with coordinating rugs. Bring out different colors using towels.
Hi... for a sophisticated look i suggest using only 2 colors, one of them is a neutral... choose a color u love and find a suitable neutral... for example: let's say u like blue... u can use it with black, brown, beige, even gray... but not really with white... let blue b light and a little dull if u prefer cos your bath is small, then use the neutral as something of an accent color...
use proper lighting for your scheme, like soft warm light from wall sconces... and strong warm mirror lighting...
also use sophisticated bathroom stuff, use materials such as glass, crystal, metal... not ceramic or clay...
Hope I helped... Good luck!
Well, if you're going for sophistication, think rich... consider using silver paint or a rich muted gray. Personally, I'd opt for the silver. Not only is it classy, but it will reflect light and will automatically make the room brighter.
Keep clutter to a minimum. Display very little. Keep the color scheme monochromatic. By that, I mean use the same color everywhere, just in different shades.
As for other suggestions, it would help to know what color the sink, etc is.
