I have a tiny room I painted?
Question:I painted the walls dark burgandy and the ceiling was supposed to be a mauve but came out DARK BURGANDY also. It is like the dungeon of doom now. Would it look ok to take a lighter mauve and roll over the ceiling and let the dark still show thru a little? Help want to get done today
Answers:
It's probably better to go with a tinted white. A cool color on the ceiling can make a dramatic contrast and open up the space. You probably know the 'rules' already--warm colors jump towards you, cool colors recede, so a full-on warm color treatment on the ceiling is only going to make the room smaller.
Add lighting and paint one or two walls a lighter color. Make sure that they are opposite walls and I am sure that your dungeon will disappear.
what about a pearlized glaze sold in sherwin williams, it is whitish pearly see thru and would lightem it up and look cool
Dark colors make small rooms look even smaller. I'd Kilz the whole thing, and start over with much lighter colors. If you don't, it will still feel like a tomb.
It would probably be ok but still dark. My daughter painted her sons very small room a dark blue then she sponge painted white spots all over it and it really lightened it up.
I would definitely avoid painting the ceiling a dark color, especially in a small room. Get a really good primer (like Kilz) and paint the ceiling flat white - glossy is awful, don't do that to yourself! Then, you could get a lighter color that compliments the burgundy on the walls and paint all but one or two of the walls with the lighter color. That way, you can keep the burgundy that you originally liked and keep the room lighter and not so much like a dungeon.
Mix a lighter shade of mauve or even cream with paint glaze. Use a rag to apply to the wall.
Good luck.
