Can acrylic paint ever be used after it has dried up?
Question:I have a color and i need it but it dried up and turned into rubber. I want to know if at all possible what can i add to it to make it work again
Answers:
No, once the water has dried out of it there is not a way to make it usable again. Most good hardware and big box home improvement stores should be able to match it, depending on the color, but the sample typically needs to be completely dry. Reds, for example, are extremely hard to match, but tans match really nicely!
Good luck!
No - once the water and solvent (acrylics have solvent too) have evaporated, the resins have been deformed and are now entangled with each other - this is not easily undone, and I've never heard of it being done now that I think about it. Acrylic resins do not change chemically when they dry, rather they change geometrically - in theory you can re-use them, but it is not practical, and you would have to know some proprietary info on the resin to acheive this...
You can however recycle that paint by looking online for your county's paint drop off day - every little bit helps!
The only paints that can be reasonably re-softened and re-used are shellacs.
No, though it away and buy fresh paint. Buy less next time. don't be surprise that the new paint doesn't match the old that on the project. so make sure you have all you need.
no.dont be cheap
