Make it cheap and chic the two "c" words.
What I've seen that helps is that you should first get all your bedding, curtains and furniture first. That way you know what colors to match for the painting of the walls. It's harder if you do it the other way around. In addition, get rid of clutter so your room looks bigger. Remember that this is the room you will spend a lot of time in. I decorated my room to look almost like a suite in a classy hotel and everytime I go in the room, it makes me happy. I find that warm colors like earth tones make a room more cozy looking. Look at websites that have pictures of bedrooms to get ideas. Better yet, do a search on "faux painting bedrooms" and click on "image". You will see lots of bedroom walls and some show the whole color schemes. I personally have seen lots of faux painting and it always looks better than solid walls, especially for bedrooms. Here's a couple of sites to check out if you want to learn faux painting: www.how-to-faux-finish.com and www.MuralsandFauxPainting.com
for a bedroom its always best to keep it simple and clutter free. therefore, it will be as relaxing as possible. a good color for a bedroom is green, there are so many shades and the color green is known to be more relaxing then other colors. i must disagree with the previous person's answer. i think that choosing the color of your room is more important and should go first. then you can use that color as your base, and choose variations or complimentary colors for your bedding and drapery. the color will also give a hint to what sort of lighting you need, darker rooms will need more lighting, more floor lamps table lamps or overhead lighting. after choosing the color and your bedding and drapery you'll have a base style to your room and can choose furniture to match, such as nightstands and dressers, maybe a cedar chest. now if you have a particular piece of furniture (like a awesome bedframe or headboard) then by all means use that to start your rooms style, but again use that to choose a complimentary color for the room and then go from there. good luck! :o) hope this helps :o)
the best thing to do is to minimize your furniture. if you can, buy or make your furniture to be multipurpose so that it takes up less space, like a futon-type bed, for sitting, and sleeping. also, light colors make rooms look bigger, as well as putting color on your ceiling, as opposed to white. if you have a ceiling fan, and can do without, get a new, smaller light fixture.
*If your room is very small then maybe put up a few mirrors, i suggest those body length mirrors, it will make your room appear much bigger!,
*Also i would maybe decorate with pictures, i once had my whole wall completely filled with pictures of friends and stuff
*And for the fabric head down to your local fabric shop and browse away...who knows maybe there are some good deals, this way your Saving money making your own pillows, curtains, etc.
* Colors...whats your favorite color?, remember this is your space so don't be afraid to explore your personality too :)
Have fun!
if your room is small then multi use items are key. like a bed frame that has stoarge underneath and a bench with storage. To make your room seem bigger only paint an accent wall and the less you have in your room the better. just keep in mind that lighter colors brighten up rooms and make them look bigger while dark colors make a room look dark and make rooms look smaller.
