I need to get items together for a garage sale..what kind of things do you think people would want?

Question:

Answers:
As stated in an earlier answer, people will buy ANYTHING at garage sales. However, I would place price tags on as many items as possible. When I go to garage sales I hate to ask how much something costs and will walk away to keep from asking. There are shy people who have this trouble. I have found that marking most things works best. Maybe a poster that states how much clothing costs (2.00 for shirts, 3.00 for pants, etc. ) Boxes also work well, you can put a price on the box and everything in the box in a certain amount. Items that sell well in Alabama: Toys, garden tools, clothing, dishes, antiques, furniture, holiday decorations, shoes, you name it and it will sell!! Good luck with your sale!

I have Yard Sales all the time. Everything sales. I mean everything,.

Do not mark prices.
Let them ask you what it cost. This way if the buyer is highly motivated you can get an extra two or three dollars.

I read them like a book. What they wear. How they look. How they ask me.

All of these things you look for in a buyer and then you suck them in for the kill and when its over. You just made $400.00

The person with the money will learn experience and the person with experieince will get the money.
best things.

working electronics ( post 2000 )
Books ( not dirty)
unused computer parts

Never know what someone might want or need. Hard to say what they would want.

I disagree about the last poster about not pricing stuff. When I go to a sale without prices, I am less likely to buy ANYTHING. I don't want the hassle of questioning the price on every item I MAY be interested in.

I suggest clearly pricing everything, and having it all displayed so people san see the items well.

Good luck!
Books are often a good thing to have out at a yardsale.
Just like the last person said, everything sells. From old music cd's to used bicycles, if you don't want it 9/10 you can sell it at a yard sale.
JENNAYYY. YOU'RE NOT HAVING A GARAGE SELL. SPICE GIRLS ARE UBER RAD!
I have run a sale twice a year for over 20 years and the things that sell the best are new or nearly new, clean kids clothes, toys and games. Also, collectable items priced reasonably.
some ones trash is another ones treasure. don“t mark every thing with prices, do a few items. mostly let them make offers. i have found out some people will offer more then i would ask for. its a gamble and can be worth it.
I have yard sales 2-3 times a year. Clean childrens clothing, toys, games with boxes in shape, and videos. Cd's, videos, electronics(besides computers), and pet items. Adult clothing doesn't sell well unless its marked for a quarter...a few bucks for a suit or matching skirt and top. Older women buy up shoes and nick knacks. Men are always looking for tools and fishing gear. Put your large items like little tikes, furniture, and aquariums by the street so people can see them. Do price your items...people leave when items aren't priced because they don't want to ask about everything(I'm one of these people). Don't overprice...people will leave...Start making deals at noon. Make sure people can find you. Large signs on cardboard(wind blows off wimpy signs) ...block letters using a sharpie with arrows...signs leading 2 your house work best with arrows...Have plenty of change.Make your tables look nice(don't haul out your Rubbermaid bins and make people look through them)...good luck...
I find that people are interested in working household items and collectibles. Make sure you have an extension cord available for any items that are electrical. Baby clothes are another big seller. Adult clothing, it's best to take to a consignment shop. Just make sure to keep your prices at a "steal" or you won't sell much.
I can tell you that some things you think would never sell--will sometimes sell first! You need eye catching things like pictures and lamps --big items like that are noticed--people will buy lots of things like novel paperbacks are a big hit--dishes, silverware--furniture --old antiques usually go fast and don't forget jewelry--people love to browse thru jewelry and kids clothes sell well--people even buy shoes and blue jeans are always a hit--anything you don't use anymore will go! Remember "One man's junk is another man's treasure"---so put it all out there! always price just a tad more than what you really want for something--that way people can dicker with you! make brownies and have a cooler of cokes--people will usually buy that kind of thing--they get hot going from sale to sale and appreciate a cold drink! Don 't overprice things--you won't sell much if you do that! Sell it cheap and yoou will make more in the long run and get rid of more! CD's DVD's--they go fast too! Movies are a real hit
Any stereo equipment!
Make sure you advertise in the paper--lots of people go every weekend--best to have it on a Sat or a Fri and Sat!
Start early 8AM is usually the time most start! Just some extra advice for someone who has never had one! People like candles and purses--toys for kids are usually a hit
silk flowers--frames for pictures--best to hang your clothes but the kids clothes can be put into boxes by size--stemware is a good one too! never used make-up and other health and beauty products that are gently used or new and never used go quickly also! lawn mowers--garden products that you don't need! Christmas items---Also make sure you have plenty of change--like quarters and dimes--plenty of dollar bills--a few fives and a couple of twentys--will help when you first begin and make sure you have bags--like dept store or grocery plastic bags--make your signs with neon posterboard (eye-catching) and put up a couple of days before the sale--always indicate if rain cancels or not
Good luck on your sale--and wish I could come--I am an avid yard sale nut!!
