Can I apply brand new Venetian plaster directly on top of an old coat?
Question:The old coat of Venetian plaster does have the protective glaze on it, not sure if that makes a difference.
If it needs to be removed, what is the best way? (Sanding, etc.)
Thank you!

if you are working in the same or complimentary color pallett, you can use the exsisting plaster as a base coat, and you should be able to righr over it ,if it is a new color and you need a new base color ,then you will have to prime the wall so you get good adhesion ,I reccomend a clear coat primer called aqua seal , it will be perfect for your needs, ...painting /faux painting contractor
The best way to be sure is to contact the manufacturer of your products.
Are you patching or replacing the entire finish?
Then just as the person below me said, prime over it then begin from scratch. However I would contact the manufacturer of your product line to ask what primer to use opposed to intermixing product lines. It's always good to stay with the same line.
