Matching Colors In A Bedroom?
Question:I have my room painted recently, its called Tea Green http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/tea_green... so you can see the color by following the link. I am trying to redecorate my room, I want it to be a minimalist, asian look. I am having light colored wood flooring put in and I am wondering what colors should I put in the room? Right now I have black drapes and I don't know if I should keep them or replace them. I also have a tan bedding that I would like to keep. So my question is, can I keep my black drapes, light brown bedding in my pale tea green room? And if not what should I replace it with?
My original thoughts were to use some natural wooden furniture along with some black shelving and add in a few shades of brown with pillows and stuff. I am really going for a minimal look and trying to keep it toned down and natural looking.
Any thoughts?

since you're going for a minimalist look, then using one color or two only is the best way to go... the tan with the green tea is a great combination... vary the greens a little in the accessories and accents. So, the bedding can definately stay, and use other browns in the room too, just like u said...
in my opinion the black drapes are creating way too much contrast for your minimalist approach... so if want to replace them don't hesitate. here's an idea; try white or offwhite creamy color or tea green. windows don't normally stand out in a minimalist look... also try something more modern 4 the window treatment, maybe 2 or 3 vertical banels of any suitable material...! be creative...
wooden furniture of the right color is perfect for the simple natural look you're after, go for it!
one more thing, vary textures and patterns in the room a little... just to kill any monotony! it's a minimalist room, but that doesn't mean it should be boring!

It sounds lovely, and I would add a splash of red somewhere too, like maybe a red lamp or vase or red trimmed mirror, all very Asian. The black in the drapes will be good, the tan bedding will be a good color to try matching in the carpet or rugs, as well as matching wood tones or even straw/sisal/bamboo mats on the floor. The uniform horizontal surface colors (bed, floor, tables) helps with the serenity factor. Don't try to throw in any more colors after you add a red. Everything you add from here out, make it black, tea green, red, or tan...but also remember you have glass/crystal, and all the metals you could add for interest, as well as textured fabrics.
That shade of green is actually going to serve as a very neutral color even if it is more interesting than the usual neutrals. It is neutral because it would go with almost anything, just like a gray, white, or black or browns, taupes, and tans.
If you wanted to reduce the color scheme by one, I would choose paint to match your bedding and ditch the green, or get new bedding and ditch the tan...and without the tan, you could choose red rugs and black furniture with the green walls. It would be lovely. To change your existing bedding, you could get a duvet, bleach your sheets to white, or dye your exsting bedding black. You would have even more calm and more Asian inspired. Remember that less is more.
But do toss in a little red someplace. It will really explode with interest and stay within the Asian theme. A bright tomato red.
Looked at your color and am afraid that you're going to wind up with bland, not a minimalist look. Get rid of the black drapes! Replace with natural linen Roman shades (to go with your bedding) with white trim from Pottery Barn (on sale now). Continue with this color scheme, but throw in a bit of color with a throw rug. By the way, I think your shelves should be white with some accessories that pick up the colors in the rug. It should be an inexpensive project, but will look great!
I think you could use your existing drapes and bedding with that color (which is very nice and soothing). If you do choose to change out the drapes you could do either tan, like your bedding, or look to do a woven shade:
