Paint a surf mural on your wall and then get some small surf boards and have them cut down the middle and mount them on the waves as shelves. What a fun decorating project, I hope yo get lots of input here, I'll be checking back to read the other posts!

It is like handpainting but it is a sticker. When you put it on your wall, it actually looks and feels just like paint. It comes on a transparent paper, and you simply tape it to the wall and rub it off with a popsicle stick. It may come in more than 1 sheet depending on how big it is. It is very cheap and WELL worth the money! It looks great once you get it on. Everyone that walks in my house, I am able to fool them by telling them I painted it myself ! ;-)
You can also get one of those fish nets (at walmart in the craft section) they are like $8.00 and you can tack it in the corner of your wall and get seashells or fish, or startfish or anything like that and kinda hang them up in there.
Also, on the bottome of your wall maybe in a corner, you can make like a sand dune. Take a tan colored paint and paint like what a sand hill would look like, then after that dries, take a clear glue stick or clear glue, rub it all over that paint, then take sand and (put it in a cup and pour it down the wall) sprinkle that glue with sand, then when you are done just get a vaccuum with a hose and suck the excess sand up from the floor. That is VERY cheap and VERY easy. The paint for the sand dune doesnt have to be perfect, becasue the real sand will cover most of it up.
I think a pale blue would be really cute. Thats like a beachy color. Also you can get the foam board (in the section with poster board) cut it out like a surf board, paint it up (you dont have to be an artist to do this) just paint it up like a surf board and hang it on the wall.
You can use goggles, snorkles, beach balls or anything like that for wall decorations.
Try doing a search for airdondiack (think thats how you spell it) furniture. They make those chairs and you can probably fnd a used one at a yard sale or thrift store if not they are not expensive to buy, but get you one of those chairs and lean a surf board up in it in the corner. That would be so cute.
I wish you the best of luck. All of the things that I mentioned above are possible for you to do by yourself, and it is VERY inexpensive. You should have lots of fun doing it. Best wishes and good luck!
American Blinds has these great murals (see link), and borders, which done right ("less is more") would make a great impact in your surfer-style.
You could also do a woven shade on your windows, like these from Bed, Bath & Beyond. They have a lot of sizes, colors, and are reasonably priced.
I would pick a color from either bedding you already own, look at some of the wallpapers in the link to get some color ideas or if you have a picture that has inspired you to go with this theme, you can take colors from that.
I would have colors of Hot Pink,Orange and White. You could paint one wall orange and paint white Hibiscus flowers with the hot pink coming out of the center.
Curtains or drapes could be solid color of your choice with a Hibiscus flower tieback.
Shelfs could have raffia (think tiki hut) on edges
Headboard could be made of an old surfboard you can find at a garage sale. Sand it down and spray paint it white. On the fin paint the words "Surfs Up"
You can also take raffia and use it as a topper for your window/windows. Then get tiki heads an put them on the side of the window as if they are holding the raffia up as a Tiki Hut.
Bed Bath and Beyond had some pretty floral hawaiian type sheets you could use, along with a surfboard and such.
Bethany Hamilton has a line of jewlery out and I beleive a line of home dec. (She's the young lady who lost an arm to a shark and still surfs).
You can still do a surfer theme -- surfboards, surfing equipment, pictures of surf/surfing and make it girly just choose your basic colors in pastels. Pale blue, green, sand, white, clear pink and coral. Pretty!
Without hanging surf boards on the wall or painting a beach scene you can achieve a cali beach FEEL. I highly suggest all light wood furniture. This will instantly start you on your way to the look youre aiming for. As far a colors go try a a light teal blue. Pair is with some yellow accents and you have an instant vintagey surfer feel going. Beachy potter plants and vintage beach photographs and art would complete the look.
