i like paris if you're sophistocated. do like beige walls & dark brown accents and white linens. make everything roomy and find vintage pics u like & get them framed.
sand and a half naked man!
I think both themes are rather lame.
------ for paris, get some old antique furniture. Get some nice pictures of paris. Maybe some old french music could be playing when visitors come over to your house. Then paint your walls more of an off white to give it that old feel. You can add a tea set, lots of people in french drink tea. Another famous color in france is an orange. Paint it orange then go over it with a cloth to give it more of a "worn" look!
------- For Tropical, Paint the walls brown, or give them wood panelling. Maybe add a wood bar with a green tropical plant next to it. Get a wooden fan with the trees on them. Then give the furniture splashes of colors such as green, orange, yellow, red, and pink. Add some green plants in bronze pots. Add flowers. Give it your own look!
Have fun with this!
paris is knowen for beeing old, look for wicket chairs
nice old water paintings/ pitures
I prefer the beach scene, I'm NOT into anything French...
Having said that here's my two cents...
Paint the walls the color of sand and the ceiling the color of the sky. There's your starting point. Find a bamboo shade for your window (Pier One, Home Depot). You COULD even use another bamboo shade sideways and make yourself panelling that goes halfway up your walls. It would be easy to do with a nailing gun and you could finish the top of the panelling off with inexpensive, short raffia skirting that you can find at party stores. This would also make a cute valance above your windows!!
Accent the room with all things shell and ocean. Use navy blue for things like lampshades, picture frames, even your bedspread. If you use a solid, you can get some cute "beachy" pillows to throw on the bed.
Your carpet can be a sisal rug (Pier One) and I'd finish it off with a large tray of ocean scented candles and potpourri from Pier One. (Can you tell I've been there and done that?!?!)
Paint all your furniture white and if you are adventurous, distress it by lightly sanding all edges. Add some shell drawer knobs - you could even hot glue some real shells right over your existing knobs!!
Above all, have fun with it!
