I painted a room and have old woodwork with shellac finish. I am trying to take off paint specks. Any Ideas?

Question:We have historic finish on our trim throughout the house. I have lines where I painted as well as specks. I have tried using steel wool and oil soap, but it takes off some of the finish as well when rubbing.

I also have floors where there are old paint specks/spots from the previous owner left on the floor and need to remove those as well.

Looking for ideas...

Answers:
goof off works pretty well for getting paint off of woodwork. if you need to take it off of trimwork, tape off the painted wall so that it will not dull or take off your paint. goo gone doesnt work as well. goof off is what i use when homeowners ask me to take old paint off of woodwork before applying new paint.

try goo gone or goof off. or try mineral spirits on a dry cloth, don't pour directly on the floor as it will remove the finish, good luck.
metal scraper or single edge razor blade. carefully
