You don't say whether you use cloth or disposable diapers. Either way, the first step is the same. Make sure you dump any pooh into the toilet and flush, whether it is from a cloth diaer or disposable.
If you use cloth, after you dump the mess then you should rinse out the diaper before you put it into the diaper pail also when you empty th pail and put fresh water into it you should add some white vinegar to the water. This works as a purifier to kill bacteria that causes odors, and it won't break down the fibers in the cloth like bleach does. You should never ever use bleach on cloth diapers. It will ruin them over time as well as cause rashes on your baby if you don't rinse them well.
If you are using disposable diapers, then after dumping the waste into the toilet you should fold the diaper in on itself and use the tapes to hold it closed. This uses the waterproof backing of the diaper to help seal in any odors. If that isn't enough, then put them into a plastic grocery or store bag and tie the bag tightly to seal in any odors. If you use a diaper pail for disposables, then make sure you bag the diapers before you throw them into the pail and use a stick on type of room deodorizer on the inside of the lid of the pail. this will help to keep the odors under control. This pail should be emptied at least once a day into a garbage can outside the house with a lid on it.
This should help to keep the odors out of your house. It takes a little bit of extra housecleaning effort to maintain that fresh fragrance in your home but it is well worth it. Who wants a house that smells like a litter box?
Good Luck.
Here's a couple things that help:
Use an air purifier in rooms that contain diaper pails. Most are pretty quiet and won't disturb a sleeping baby.
Recycle plastic bags by tying up poopy diapers inside them to seal off the odor.
Use a diaper pail with a lid.
Toss out the pail's contents every day into a can that's outside the home.
Use a dehumidifier if your home doesn't have a/c - the extra summer humidity can intensify smells.
When you change the diaper make sure to put the poopy diaper in a plastic bag and tie it closed then put it in a garbage can with a lid. You might also try an odor neutralizer. Look in the aisle with air fresheners. Odor neutralizers don't just spray a scent to cover the odor they actually neutralize the odor. Another option is febreeze.
Make sure the diapers are not going in your trash can inside the house. If they aren't and you still have the smell try some different air sprays maybe oust or something similar that doesn't just mask odors.
The easiest way is to use a Diaper Genie. This seals the diaper and cleaning cloths in a scented bag and seals out any odors. Works great!

We take the diapers out immediately, and also use those Glade oil burner candles, the ones that melt down? They work well for funny smells.
