I agree with a dark brown, something very modern and simple.
I think a deep rich brown would be pretty, but what about that blonde maple pictured in the photo? I'd never gone light before and just did my new house with lots of blonde maple. It's beautiful. Just a thought.
deep red, gold, some greens like sage, Natural colors, plants bamboo. depends on what kind of mood your trying for!
I think you're right. If you look at the floor in the image, you can see how the dark wood really pops the bedspread and how the chocolate throw pillow brings the flooring color to the bed to make the room cohesive. You would have the same effect if you used a dark finish on the furniture.

This color theme is kind of light brown. I would go either much lighter (light tan, taupe) or much darker color (deep brown) to give the contrast.
Definitely Chocolate or even black would look great ( and very asian.) This is a very modern look. Go for the dark it makes a much bolder statement. You have great taste. I recently purchased an espresso bedroom suite and it made a huge difference. It's beautiful.
