New house- open floor plan- how to paint it?
Question:We just bought a brand new home- and all the walls are white. I want to paint the downstairs- but the plan is open- how do I do this? I have been all over The Net reading and haven't come up with anything. I want to do a southwestern style.
Any ideas on painting it or where to get ideas on painting?
TIA

Hi Tia,
I also have an open plan, and have it done with a southwestern style. I painted each section, such as the living room area one color, the dining area another, and the kitchen as well. My living room area is painted in three colors of earth tones. I have stairs with walls that are seen from the living room, each wall is different colored, which makes it look three dimensional, from darker to lighter at the top of the stairs. My dining room wall is a sky blue, just one wall as an accent (that's all I have is one wall). I have high cathedral ceilings, so even thou it is open, the part wall leading to the dining room was painted a brick color. All these colors were taken from a southwestern picture that I have hanging on one wall. Hope this helps!
what's the color of your flooring? color should be close to them in order to keep it neutral and add simply bold color accessories (lamp fixtures, decorations, pillows, etc..
check the interactive tool on painting at www.lowes.com
go to your local newsstand & get a copy of Atomic Ranch magazine:

It should provide you with heaps of ideas about how to decorate.
well tia,
i think downstairs you should go with diffrent shades of darker greens
and upstairs you could go with just about any color you want with the nutral carpet
