What color to Paint My Bedroom?
Question:I live in an apartment but my landlord does allow me to paint. I love red but I feel like since he is nice enough to let me paint I don't want to go with a bold red color but yet I hate pinks. Our bedroom is huge with my bed and also desk and futon in it. I have three big windows in a row on the one wall.
Also I am painting the living room a a biege and there is a little room with a closet off of my bedroom that I am painting a light purple because we are converting it into a nursery.
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. I'm totally confused and have to buy the paint tomorrow.
Answers:
If you like red, paint the room white, cream, or another light, natural tone and then add lots of red accents in with your bedding and window treatments. Some touches of crisp black would give it a little extra punch so that the red will be accentuated without being overpowering. Don't give in to paint the walls red, unless you just do an accent wall, like perhaps the wall with all of the windows. All design experts say that red on all of the walls is too much and causes feelings of anxiety.
white
I think white is definitely the way to go. I recently moved in to a house that is painted all white, and although it sounds really boring, it is actually really good. The whole place feels light and big and all the furniture goes where ever you want to put it and whatever colour it is. The white should not be shiny - a nice matt chalky white.
(I used to have a light yellow bedroom in my old house which was good too - it was like waking up in sunshine but it is hard to find the right shade and I can't remember what it was called.)
I have maroon red in my living room and it is amazing... beige and white and yellow *light* is conserative. We have a light orange color is our Office that's fresh and welcoming, and light sage green is good too.
Hi!
I have a cool and portable way to add red or any color to a rental wall without actually painting. Dunno what your decor is like, but you might want to consider this creative option:
Get some doorway beads, like the hippies had back in the day, preferably largish wooden ones. They are usually at pier one or world market, and they are about 20 bucks for a 3 foot wide band. Spray-paint them the red of your choice, and hang it on the wall over your bed (in addition to your headboard), or as panels on each side of your bed.
I've also seen this done by hand-making them of colored glass and fishing line.
It's quite a lot of impact for very little money. Interesting, unique, and a great conversation piece.
Good luck and have fun!

Do the red on the wall with the windows. Then the other walls an off white. And put a border around the top with your red in it.
