Granite would probably not be a good choice. One, because it is so expensive, and two, Granite is full of millions of fault lines. I have been building houses for the last nine years, and granite can crack under the weight of a man. If you tried to park or drive a car on it, it would just turn to dust. If you have a VERY deep pocket book, and wanted a similar look, you should go for Marble. Marble is a much denser stone, and would last. It will only work if it is set in a bed of sand and the sand is on concrete. Not the most economical thing to do but it can be done.
You can buy granite in thickness of 6 and 8 inches. It is durable if you jplace a sand or crushed granaite bse under it. However the cost would be outrageous. The same for marble.
I have seen some beautiful driveways that are constructed with stained concrete, bricks, cobblestones etc.
Shop around a little.
