Is it necessary to have a seal between skirting boards and plaster walls?

Question:The old one has been removed but some is left in there so there is no gap. New seal or just paint over?

Answers:
Just paint over.No gaps no problem.

new seal the finish will look better
no you could not put a seal between the skirting board and and plaster walls as that would be cruel to the seal.
lol
Question of standards. If you're happy with it, do it.
Personally I prefer skirting boards to meet walls with no gaps in between, but it's entirely up to you.
PS some what is left in there ?
if you are painting the skirting personally i would use painters mate (decorators caulk) but if you are going to stain it then i would either leave it if the gap is only small or if it is too big use a stain-able filler (brummer or something like that) just bare in mind the filler will not stain the same colour as the timber
