I'm trying to turn my garage into a home gym. Recessed lighting is too expensive. Alternative to ceiling light
Question:Please suggest an alternative to recessed lighting that is inexpensive yet effective.

hanging lights with cost and energy efficient lighting is advisable. not only does it diffuse lights better (since it is lower), you can even have the option to choose what style or design you want for your hanging lights..especially if you have a theme for your gym or not, the preferences over plain recessed fluorescent lighting is plenty.

Track lighting. I think that is an awesome look.
I say go with the old track lighting. You are building a gym...so its not all about fancy...its about function. And with track lighting, you can point the lights in the areas you need light... Its not terribly expensive...
Fluorescent Lighting would be a cheap alternative. If you have existing outlets nearby you can get fluorescent lights that hang from the ceiling and the tubes are not expensive either (less than $20 for each fixture with 2 tubes)
