Covering a brick fireplace?
Question:What are some good ideas? Mosaic? Box it in with sheetrock? How about Venetian plaster? Any other ideas?
Answers:
Natural thin vaneer is really cool and fun to install! (real stone cut thin) i'm looking at the one that i just did, and i can not picture anything else on it>
I've seen it boxed in with painted plywood before. Looked really good with some moulding, and a paint job that complimented the rest of the room.
Mosaic is a very creative idea, though. I bet you that would look very good. You could also try polished stones, or cobblestones! Depends on what kind of theme you want for your room.
I also have a similiar question in this catagory. I read up on Venetian plaster and the instructions said it should be applied over a smooth surface. If your brick is smooth I suppose it would be fine but what about the grouted areas? This area may be rough and would need some filling in. Venetian plaster may crack as it dries if it is too thick. I thought of Venetian myself but after reading up on it some more has changed my mind.
you could stucco it or you you put a cultured stone over venitian plaster will not stick to the block/brick surface very well its is a form of drywall mixture, boxing it in could work too but you will have to wood frame it first then sheetrock it but around the opening you have to buy the fireproof drywall
