What color frame and mat would go good with our family picture?

Question:We had our family pictures taken over the weekend and there was 6 of us and we all wore white and had a white background also. The pictures turned out amazing! Now I am not sure what color mat or frame I should use? We ordered a 16X20 and I want it to look amazing on the wall any help!

Answers:
Depends on where you'll hang it and what style you like best.

Do you want to have the frame be the focus or the people in the picture?

If its the people select a color that is common in the skin tones, (lip, cheek, hair, eye color in a soft shade) use that color as the inner mat or "lip" mat then select a neutral color that is also in the photo and put that on top of the Inner mat leaving 1/4"- 3/8" showing around the photo itself. On a 16x20" photo you should have at least a 3" mat all the way around and select a frame that is approx 1/3 the width of the matting. I would use a 3 1/2" double mat and a 1 1/4" wide frame in a color that enhances the people in the photo and also complements the mat colors.

Good luck to you, go and experiment at a frame shop and see whats available.

I know it sounds boring, but I dont think you can really go wrong with a neutral. If you go with a color and you want to put it in a different room or change the room its in you may have a problem. Black frames with charcoal grey mats are very chic. But warm neutral mats and natural wood frames are quite lovely as well.
Good Luck!
definately black frame, mid to light gray mat! you'll love it!
Hi there... I agree w/ the neutral colors. Neutral does go w/ anything. I would aim for u'r skin tones when it comes to the mats. As far as the frame goes. Yes, Black or wood would b a natural to go w/ esp if u like that or it would go w/ u'r decor. If u'r decor is more modern or contemporary.. then go w/ the black. But other wise stick w/ a wood-tone. I'd stay away from white mats for the MAIN mat only b/c u have a LOT of white going on in the pix..clothes/bkgrd...
So if I were to do this for me & I had contemporary.. I would choose, as the bttm mat, black & top either tan/beige(or a soft white..there r MANY white mats now) then black frame... IF other wise, I would go w/ tone of beige/tans.. for the mats & darkr wood tone frame. W/o cing what is in the pix besides white clothing & bkgrd.. stick w/ something IN the pix. So many try to add colors that rn't IN the pix to match the house/rm. U want to compliment the pix.. NOT u'r house. IF u do that... it will go IN u'r house.
