Who has an easy way to change wood finish/color?
Question:I got some beautiful second hand tables that are in great condition and only a few years old. The tables are a light honey oak finish and aren't my taste and don't match my mahogany furniture. Since the tables are in such good condition is there an easy way to darken them without refinishing or painting them? (I mean I don't really want to strip off the clear coat and finish and sand them down and then apply a base coat, a new stain, and top coat!) Thank you!
Answers:
you can set it on fire. That will change the finish and the color at the same time.
Yes, UGL makes Zar stain that can go over virtually any substrate. I would prepare the surface by lightly sanding without getting into the stain. I would also then wipe the surface down with a mineral spirits on a lint free rag. Let dry and apping the stain with a rag. What is nice is if you don't like it, wipe it off, it is only laying on the surface. Do not worry, this product has great adhesion. Then top coat with a polyurethane with any sheen that you desire.
