Would a carpenter be just as good to design, supply & fit bedroom wardrobes that are fitted?

Question:I'm just trying to check out all my options & get quotes and idea's. So far I've tried the likes of MFI, Sharps, Hammonds, Interior designers.
They are all proving to be costly, what about a chippy?? is the quality & cost better??

Answers:
you should try doors direct..

quality would be better but will be more expensive because you have to add his time onto the cost of the wardrobes.

.
A good joiner would make you a wardrobe that would last forever
I'm a chippy of 40 years experience, and would say if you want a job that lasts and looks good go for the chippy, i have built in wardrobes in all my bedrooms and they are as good if not better than purpose built ones. you can buy the pre-sprayed panels from any trade outlet, the rest is just good workmanship.
i am a carpenter the wardrobes will be better quality but more expensive if you want fancy patterns on the doors a joiner will have to machiene them it is costly why dont you ring some out of the yellow pages and get prices
or try a company called howdens joinery they do fitted bedroom furniture
Obviously you'd get better quality from a joiner, his work isn't going to be cheap and mass-produced. You'll also get something unique for your money. My older brother used to make all his own cabinets and tv/hi-fi stands and they were always very good quality, you just can't buy something as well made as that in a store. It might cost you a bit more, but the workmanship would be second to none. Just get plenty of quotes and go with what YOU want, not what a joiner thinks you should have.
I build them all the time and usually work out 25%- 30% cheaper than the places you have been to.

I have a good local supplier for the doors and materials, the doors can be made to any size or shape I want
yes a carpenter would do an excellent job if you got sharps,or Hammond's it would be over heads and more expensive, but get someone who knows what they are doing?cost and how long will it take, good luck.
I would get a carpenter in and get him to make wardrobes.
They will outlast you, and will maximise your storage space in the room. The likes of MFI etc are for gullibles who can be seen coming for miles.
They are very poor quality.
You might end up paying slightly more but in time you will look back and be glad.
Have fun
