What kind of tape should I use to protect my plaster (not wallboard) walls when hanging art?
Question:I heard that first putting tape on the plaster wall, then hammering in a nail will keep the wall from crumbling. Anyone know anything about this method? or of a better one?
Answers:
It's true, it will help protect your wall. Masking tape or painters tape is good. Don't use tape that's hard to remove, it could cause damage. I have used scotch tape with small finishing nails for light weight items. Also, screws and fasteners are good for heavy objects. You have to drill a hole, hammer in the fastener then put the screw in the fastener. They hold really good but a pain to remove.
The small holes made by small nails or picture hangers are much easier to repair than the adhesive from tape like hangars.
Bear with me.plaster is a thin layer of plaster of paris ontop of a layer of grey concrete. It is extremely hard. You are going to bend many a little nail. Why not use a thin masonary bit and drill into the wall, then just find a nail that fits the hole.
u should use scotch clear tape so you can prevent the tape from stripping.Dont use dark tapes or they'll leave marks.
