Building Permits?

Question:Will be applying for a permit next week to constuct an addition on my recently purchased home. Do I need to wait for the permit before I can begin demolition of existing walls, roof etc. or is the permit needed for both demolition and construction? I live in NJ.

Answers:
yes,,a permit is necessary for demolition as well,,,,,you must have it posted in plain view,,from the road.

Yes... in most every city a permit is needed before starting any remodeling.
yeah you should wait cuz you dont know if will be passed or not or what the city may recomend to change the original plans..good luck
Yes. You will have to wait.
get the permit first, if you have pain in the *** neighbors & they can complain to the town and you may incur fines.
Where I live the local code official has allowed demolition to take place prior to obtaining the building permit. It's usually done on a case by case basis. You or your contractor should call the city offices and ask to speak with a reprsentative from the buiding code department about your question. Hopefully they'll let you do it.
