Getting some new windows - what I need to know?
Question:We have a few different companies coming out to give us estimates on windows for our home. What are some good tips on what to look for over all when getting new windows?
Answers:
Investigate all their credentials! Don`t be afraid to put them on the spot. Ask them for names of satisfied(and dissatisfied) customers. Every company has a "darkside". What do they do in case of a foul up? Do they deal with it promptly or is it put off and dealt with shoddily?
Ask the BBB about the companies in question.
Dig for any info pertaining to reputation. This will be the major factor in determining the right company.
We just had this done. We found out that some are just vinyl some reinforced vinyl some wood. We bought a brand that had reinforced vinyl. Ask if they qualify for the energy rebate. Are they energy star rated? Double or triple pane? Low e glass? Gas filled? Also know that if they are gas filled the windows look tinted. I didn't know this and was really disappointed. The better the window the more they cost in general. We got a good window but service was poor. Don't pay more than 50% up front and don't make the final payment until you are sure everything is working properly.
WOW DONT GET RIPPED OFF1
companies tell you theyt will give you money for your old one s thats bs so if ya look like at a home depot or a window places i go to in new jersy you can get most windows for under 150 dollars each! and thats a good one . windows are sold by united inches which is width by the height say for instance 36 x58 would equal 94 united inches . AS THE SCALE GETS HIGHER SO DOES THE COST OF THE WINDOW
All the responses are good. I went for double hung tilt in vinyl windows, low e (treated for reducing the uv rays entering your rooms), they also have full length screens and a 4 light grille inserted between the glass (looks like 4 panes of glass in each section). I had to have the tilt in, it's so nice to clean the outside of the windows frominside the house. I had 27 windows replaced, 21 had to be 76" long so they were more expensive. The job, including removal of all old windows and scrap and new wood trim on the inside of the windows cost 8500.00.
