How expensive is adding a half bath in basements?
Question:We have a full bath directly above the basement, but it is located about 12 feet from the location I want the half bath to be added. Too expensive?

I'm assuming that by 1/2 bath, you mean a toilet and vanity. One thing to remember - you'll need a toilet with some type of pumping mechanism to pump the waste UP, as well as the gray water from your vanity. 12'0 away from the main drain probably means that you'll incur additional expense since the new drains will be further away than 5'0, which is the plumbers rule-of-thumb. New venting may be required, you'll have to check on current Code being that you are so far away from the existing lines.
Figure about $5K to $10K depending on size, quality and location of drain piping.
This also depends on where you live due to cost of living changes and permit charges. Check out the "Do It Yourself" TV station or their webpage, and they've got all sorts of information on this type of subject.
I put a full bath in my basement for under $1,000-that included the tub, toliet, sink, and piping, and raised flooring. Pipe is cheap, all you're doing is tieing into the drain pipe leading out of the house and connecting water pipes. The most expensive part (outside of labor) will be the copper pipes, the rest is PVC and it's not expensive at all. Oh yeah, and the labor cost if you don't do it yourself.
If you are doing it yourself I would estimate 3-5k, if you are letting a professional 6-9k. this is if there are no walls to be pulled out or major plumbing problems. we just installed a bath and the biggest expense was the tile/flooring
