Which is better (and cheaper) -- granite or silestone?

Question:

Answers:
Granite is more expensive if you have the slab type
fabricated ,but if you put in the granite tiles they are
about the same cost as Silestone.
Silestone is not A stone at all it is A composite, made with
polymer (plastic) and thus is cheaper.
As far as which is better that is up to you.
Granite will not burn or scorch (silestone does)
Granite does not require much maintaince (silestone does)
You can chop food on granite (cannot on silestone)
Silestone ads some re-sale value to your home
Granite slab ads considerable re-sale value to your home

In some areas granite can be cheaper but if its significantly cheaper it'll be because the company is installing it in scraps, (you'll have lots of seams). Silestone is one of the cheaper quartz options. But you still may be able to find granite priced competitely plus you have the beauty that only mother nature can provide. Yes, you have to seal most lighter colors but, there are plenty of issues now popping up about quartz countertops. You have a warranty with quartz but it doesn't cover most of what would happen if it was damaged. Warranties only cover "material" and not if you put a hot pot on it and it cracked or if you scratched it.

For my money, between the two I would choose granite because the options available can be breathtaking. Just be careful (as with any countertop options available).

Most importantly, look for a good company to install your countertops. Check out their work, the best bet is to find friends or family who've had a good installation job done by a company. Because that's the most important part.
