In feng shui, how does metal affect fire? Does it hurt fire?
Question:On one hand, metal retains heat and gets very hot but on the other hand it keeps it from being a flame.
Answers:
Under the Wu Xing Cycle of Enhancement: Fire produces ash which turns to Earth, Earth products Metal, Metal can be melted to a form of Water, Water nourishes Wood and Wood feeds Fire.
Under the Wu Xing Cycle of Exhaustion: Fire burns Wood, Wood absorbs Water, Water weakens Metal, Metal is taken from Earth, Earth snuffs Fire.
Under the Wu Xing Cycle of Destruction: Metal cuts Wood, Wood drains Earth, Earth soaks Water, Water quenches Fire, and Fire melts Metal.
in fengshui, fire #9 melts or destroys #6 and #7 metal - how can it retain head when it is already melted. in fengshui, when metal melts down, it is considered as another element - molten metal, which can considered as magma or the number 5, which is literally the center of the earth.
in practice, it is good to melt metal. since money/ coins is metal, putting fire or the color red in the area where there is metal energy can bring money luck to the occupants.
another practice is tying chinese coins with a red thread - same thing.

There are three basic "cycles" of how elements affect one another in feng shui.
In the creative cycle, fire creates earth, earth creates metal, metal holds water, water feeds wood, and wood fuels fire.
In the destructive cycle, fire melts metal, metal cuts wood, wood draws from earth, earth dams water, water douses fire.
In the neutral cycle, fire balances wood, wood balances water, water balances metal, metal balances earth, earth balances fire.
So, there is no cycle in which metal has an effect on fire.
