Paint it is a nice colour that you've gotten cheap somewhere. Use old, second-hand funiture and put up a few posters that the teenager likes. Make a budget, and then take it from there.
Posters. Paint (and let them put handprints up in different colors). Bean bags. Sheets make cheap curtains and can be cut to fit and hemmed.
HGTV has these awesome shows called Design on a Dime and Decorating Cents. They are awesome and both shows design a new room based on a certain budget. HGTV has borth of the shows pages on their website and you can go through the episodes to find teen rooms that they have done.
I agree with the previous poster..First, get ideas from catologs, magazines and store websties. Create a flexible picture of what you want from the ideas. Second, set a budget. Third, buy a few pieces of furniture from a yard sale/friends/second hand store. The same goes for artwork.
You can add your own touches by recovering, painting or adding details to the furniture or artwork.
.
paint for sure will really make a big change. Try a bright pink, blue, or yellow.
A very cheap way to update your space is to buy some magazines like tiger beat, m, bop, j-14, twist etc and take out all the posters and hang them on your wall you make a huge collage. make sure there are no spaces on the wall. i did this before and it looks awesome!
you could also paint stripes or polka dots on the wall.
get some cute pillows.
hope this helped!
Recycle centers have left over stuff from building sites that you can pick up for cheap, including paint.
