Help! Room decorating dilemma?

Question:A year ago, I painted my bedroom a dark grey, which was fine for me, because I intended on decorating it very funky and unique like.
However, I have failed.
I need theme ideas, or accent wall ideas for my grey walls. I'll try to get the color for an example.

But I need something for young adult/teenager.

But any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Answers:
my ex-girlfriend painted her walls gray--she thought it would look industrial and modern--it ended up making her depressed...

i would suggest going with a warm color, like a soft shade of orange.

We painted the interior of my apartment orange sherbert with bright white accents (doors, sills, moldings)--it really looked great, and felt sunny and modern

I love blue with gray. But the accent color should pick up a shade from your bedspread or drapes.
earth tone colors nothing bold or busy
not talking dark earth tone either lol
what kind of mood you going for?
what you can do is make big paris of plaster on the ceilling in a circle or square and then make a painting in that part that is any design , picture which u like
so when the person sleep it looks beautiful
even u have pasting of wallpaper or your family photograph in giant size and have a thin curtain
have some decorative yellow lights
thankyou
I was in a similiar situation when I moved and first lived in a newly renovated basement suite. The walls were a dark yellow Ochre and of couse, being in the basement was dark. What I did was to buy a small can of white paint and a sea sponge. I sponge painted the white over the dark yellow and it turned out lovely and brighter. You can do the same and add sheer blue-gray curtains and acessorize with either, white, or another contrasting color. Just remember, what ever colour you chose as your main one for accessories, echoe that color in other parts of your decor to tie all your color scheme together. Maybe your teen will like hot pink or red throw pillows or a same color lamp base for the bed to be a focal point in the room.
If paint is out of your budget, what do you expect to accomplish?

Paint's cheap, just about everything else costs more than that.

If it were my money, I'd spring for paint.
~After that, posters. They're cheap, and can cover the walls.
~Wrapping paper. Either in frames, or just on the wall. Cut it into funky shapes and do a collage.
~Fabric can be cheap if you find a good sale. Bed sheets work great too. Drape it around or hang it from the walls.
~Go for the "industrial look" with chrome, glass and cement/rock/marble stuff.

Just spring for paint!
Sounds to me like there would be lots of things you can do with your room. I liked some of the other ideas given and can contribute some more for you:

If your walls are done in flat paint, using regular white school chalk, draw on your walls! Make the Eifel Tower, Golden Gate Bridge, the Empire State Building... then make some fun pillows to match the theme you've drawn.

Are you into fashion? Dark gray would make a great backdrop for a wall hung fashion show! Just hang your favorite clothing pieces on hangers with tacks. Then take some shirts or jeans, cut off the sleeves or legs, stuff them and sew up the openings, cute pillows!

Do you like the outdoors? Hang colorful kites from your walls and then use floor can lights (little spotlights that point up) and light them from below. Paint or chalk some clouds on the tops of the walls.

Exotics? Fabrics can be an inexpensive way to decorate. Make some simple curtains out of a zebra print, a couple pillows too, and then with some crocadile texured vinyl make a hassock (foot stool) by covering a sturdy box. Use some of the vinyl scraps to cover cans and boxes for desk accessories like pencil cans. A yard of fake fur will make a slip cover for a chair too. Want to make it funkier? Use something like blue zebra print and pink crock and lime fur!

The world is your oyester! Open it up and snatch that pearl! Go with an underwater theme! String sea shells to hang like curtains. Make or purchase an ocean themed comforter cover. Using different shades of green vinyl, creat strands of seaweed to hang from your ceiling like a room divider. Glue or paint fish on your walls...
Pick a wall and brighten it up with stripes in a few bright colors that you love. You will only need to buy a few of the very smallest tester pots of paint or maybe just ask around friends if they can donate leftovers. Everyone has some old paint in the garage don't they?
u can't change wall color, so i'll take it from here...

gray as u know is a neutral color... so it can be very depressing or very alive depending on what u have elsewhere in yr room... i can't exactly say you have failed... not yet at least!

LIVEN up the place... choose yr favorite colors for the accessories, the bedding, the pillows... be brave: choose bold and happy photos or paintings for the walls, u can also use other wall fixture like a nice clock, nice pattern mirrors, happy creative things...!

also vary the texture and patterns in yr room... use natural stuff if u like, such as floral patterns... maybe geometric patterns... use different textures... soft, silky, rough...

use warm incandescent lighting... it's so flattering and can hide some defaults...

finally use creative accessories... like some over-scaled sculpture u may find cheep or a nice plant... because yr room will need a focal point or something or things to take away attention from the walls... i don't know if u can afford painting only one wall a different color!

whatever u do, have fun and the right attitude... Good luck!
