Should I replace plywood that was under carpet that has some water stains ?

Question:We believe the former owners had pets.

Answers:
If the wood is now dry, not damaged and not smelling you can leave it. It is likely indoor grade plywood which means the glue used to make the plywood is not designed to ever get wet. There will likely be some delamination of the ply layers which will feel like a soft spot. If that is the case it definitely needs to be replaced. A few sheets of plywood now is a lot less expensive than ripping up the carpet later.

you can buy a spray at the pet store that gets rid of any animal odors.. It is a big hassle anad expense to start ripping up the floor.. what I might do is remove the carpet..
