Redesigning my room?

Question:Im planning on redesigning my room this summer. i'm almost 13 andi need a room that suites a 13 year old, not a 60 year old!

First off, i need to convince my dad to let me get new stuff for my room. He's pretty sensative about money and i dont wanna hurt his feelings and make myself look spoiled.

Next, if my dad wont give me some money, (and my mom probably will but thats not enough lol) how do u suggest i earn the money NOW? I'm 12 and 3/4ths what would be a good job to earn enough money to buy a pretty yet cheap bed? Where could i find one too? IM SICK OF MY CURRENT BED! its a 30 year old canipy bed and the wood is very VERY chiped. ( if i show my dad the chips he'll get mad )

Next, I want some pretty pastles and so far my mom will let me redesighn my room as long as i dont have to re-paint the walls. and im not even up for that. what do u suggest?

Next- My furnature is so old!! where is a nice, cheap place to replace all my 80 year old furnature? thanks!

Think about painting your furniture or refinishing it. You will need a sander. They sell a little one hand kind for about $13. it has a bag to collect the dust. I bought mine at Wal-mart. It's real easy to use. Go to a hardware store look at the paint and stain finishes. You can take your pick they have all kinds of wood finishes. I like Antique white, they have Antique blue and green too.
Or the regular oak cherry walnut ect. It lill turn out beautiful just like brand new. So why buy new? Some other helpful hints if your room is small you want to stick with very light colors. It makes your room look much bigger than it is. Another feature of this light color, it does not show dust. All my furniture is antique White and I overhear everyone always saying her house is spotless. I just laugh, if they only knew. I have beige carpet and that is the biggest thing that makes the room look bigger. And cleaner. Hope I have helped you and good luck. It really is easy to do. And since you think your furniture is so bad you want to pitch it now what have you got to lose.
OH YEAH the Q was making money? Put up some ads in your neighbor hood for walking dogs, or helping moms that work at home in the summer. You could play with the kids and babysit with mom still at home just in case of trouble. Alot of moms need this help to get their jobs done. Have Fun, and ad your own personal touch to your room. You can get some really nice 2nd hand furniture at the local Good Will or Salvation Army and refinish it. Or if you have a neighborhood magazine like Penny Saver, or Green Sheet they are private owners selling cheap because they are moving. You won't need much money to do it and I bet you could earn all that money yourself. Just think how proud your parents would be and yourself. Try it honey You will feel really good about it.

I agree with Carol S. she gave some pretty good advise. The 1st thing I would do is take down the canapy. If your dad won't let you paint the furniture, you can work around it. Buy some pretty pastel bedding and pillows. That will make a big difference. If you have a mirror in your room, put some pictures of your and your friends, family, pets etc.. on it. Find some posters or even paint your own pictures and hang on walls. If you can get a pastel sheet set, use the fitted sheet for your bed and the other sheet for curtains. Just use your imagination. It will be fun and your room will be you. Good luck and have fun.
