We had a paint contracting business for a lot of years and never had to advertise a day. Had Corp of Eng jobs for outside painting, an Apt complex in a college town, then homes...the key is to 1) don't use cheap paint 2) make good your job, in other words don't water down, skimp etc 3) watch your workers 4) listen to what the client wants.then write it all down on a contract and have them sign and then you go by it 5) if he has a problem area few days later, go back and help him out or see whats going on.6) ALWAYS know what your cost is going to be for paint before you bid a job, you don't want to go back after the fact and say "well, err xmm the paint was a bit much so I need more money"
A suggestion my husb would use when clients picked out a paint he "knew" would be too dark or didn't know if they were sure they would be happy with.he would say, now that paint is going to be darker than that looks...or he would say, I usually say find what you want then pick 2 shades lighter...if they say No, thats what I want, say Ok, just wanted to be sure before we slapped it on for you I want you happy.
He retired from painting and closed the business after his heart attack/surgery several years ago plus now a judge too but we still have ones calling for painting suggestions or help on how to "fix" a paint mess.
Good Luck to you on your business!!
be efficient, itemise and get your customer to sign for the work that you have agreed to do. if working for builders don't except any unfinished work from any other trades, cause as the last one on site you will get the blame for it. be professional when answering the phone, it builds confidence in your customer. good luck
yep..give a fair price & do a thorough job..that way the person will be happy...and pass your name on to others.
nobody wants to use the yellow pages for painters..so its word of mouth & recommendations that will give you a good reputation & earn you money!
You will get a lot of advise about how to best set up your business. The key to success though, is sticking to your specialty. Find your niche in the market and you should have no problem.
