House does adding a pool to your house effect the value?
Question:I live in WA state and want to add a pool to my hourse. I really just want to add a little value to my home. Is it worth it?
Answers:
The answer depends on several things. For example, do you live in an area with a lot of seniors? If so, then the pool could actually be a mistake. A lot of people do not want the responsibility of maintaining a pool. However, if you live in an area with families then a pool could be a very wise investment.
Only add a pool if you want it for you. It will add about the value of the pool to the house. Maybe alittle less. Upgrade the kitchen and baths add a bath are the best home value return of investment
Check with your local Realtor, if you were in Nevada it would increase value, Washington,it may be a detriment like here in Colorado, no one has them and taking care of them is a nightmare.
I worked in insurance for 2 years so I can say from that view point that it does add value. Since you live up north I would think a heated pool would be a great selling point. If you want to get the biggest bang for your buck though I would go with improving the inside. No buyer wants to come into a house that they see needs improvement & then add the price & time it takes to care for a pool on top of it. Good Luck!!
In will increase the value but if you were to sell in would decrease amount of potenial buyers.
Here in New York, it increases the value for your property taxes, but is not a selling feature and adds no value when selling a house. It is actually considered a burden - tax wise and maintenance wise. Sometimes people don't want to have to deal with the safety issues either.
