you need to call a place that does floors.
we had our whole house re-finished but it costs quite a bit. try 4,000 dollars.
They have to be stripped, sanded, stained and refinished with a sealer like a polyeurathane.
hi
Strip off the carpet, get a hardwood floor sanding machine and sand the entire floor from wall to wall (After checking for tacks, nails...etc)
Stain and laquer the floor when finished.
it is absolutely ESENTIEL to remove the carpet
clean em, sand em, clean again, stain it and poly it with several coats.
you can rent a sander, stain it and polyurethane it...it's a good bit of work to get the edges...
You would have to have the carpet removed first. Then refinish your floor. You could leave it like that because that is very pretty and classy looking or put the carpet over it again. I guess that is what you mean? but I don't see the point.
First you have to uncover them.then you have to remove all leftover moldings and carpet tacks...then you have to strip the old varnish off of them and sand the area smooth...then you have to decide which type/color of stain to apply...then you have to apply the stain (and make sure you have proper ventilation and a workmask).
dont call anyone... do it yourself...
Remove all baseboard..
Pull all carpet and padding..
rent a motorized sander..
Resand entire floor to remove any dried glue from the carpet pad.
pick a finish and some pollyurethane.. let it dry and viola!
When we moved into our old house, the carpets had been removed from the floors, but they were a mess. We thought that the floors would have to be refinished, but my mother said that she didn't think we would need to do that.
All we did was vacuum about three or four times, changing the filters or bags each time. We hand cleaned the floors with Renuzit, warm water and green scrubbers. Then we treated the wood with an orange oil based wood treatment, allowed it to soak in overnight. The next day we buffed with old T-shirts. The floors look great and carries a high gloss sheen. Our routine is to wash with a light detergent, spray with the oil treatment, probably twice a year. We didn't have to refinish the floor and the maintenance is easy. The floor is in a high traffic area, but it still looks great after five years.
