Is the smell of stain bad for babies?

Question:i am staining my kitchen cabinets and it's taking me dayyys to do it. i have the ceiling fan all the time and the kitchen door open but i still smell the stain in the living room too. i have a 4 months and a half baby and i'm worried the smell is bad for him and me since i breastfeed him. second when i was dusting the wood, do you think the dust has lead? thank you

Answers:
Yes. STOP. Fumes are not good for small lungs. They're not so good for big lungs either. Open the windows is you use stain. And get someone to take your baby for a couple of days. It is especially bad for you because you are breast-feeding. Do you have a friend or significant other who can finish the job?
There is no way to determine whether there is lead in the dust without testing it with a lead tester. (I presume the "dust" is from sanding the cabinets) Lead is VERY, VERY BAD for babies and children and not so great for adults either. Lead damages the brain and other vital parts. Stop this project until you can determine what you're dealing with. The ceiling fan is just blowing the poison around.

Most stain containers recommend a "well ventilated" area for use. It is not good for an infant to be breathing the fumes. I don't know what the surface you sanded had as a coating so cannot comment as to if it had lead or not.
no one should be breathing in fumes from stain, especially not young people (babies) and the elderly and those w/breathing problems.
mos def YES
