Deal or NO Deal?
Question:Was told that Lowe's had the best prices on
Bathroom & Kitchen Fixtures such as faucets, toilets, tubs, cabinets, Kitchen sinks, stoves w microwave tops
And Home Depot was the deal in
Windows, door locks, shower kits, and mirrors
Deal or Not - If not, then WHERE CAN I GET THE BEST BUYS - NEED TO GET GOOD QUALITY FOR LOWEST PRICE
Answers:
Direct Buy has great prices on everything, but you need to have a membership.
You can find better deals online actually, because stores have to take care of all their overheads. I bought a frenchdoor fridge online and saved $400 compared to Home Depot pricing for the same brand and model. Even with shipping. It was the most money I've ever spent online, but totally worth it.

LOWES ALL THE WAY !
Better service, more knowlegable associates, and has that price guarentee ! Find a lower price and they match it and then take ten percent off ( stock items ) !
OK, I'm gonna leave the doors and windows to someone else but I can give you the lowdown on the bath stuff.
Bath Faucets : Lowes : Delta or Moen for quality, Kohler is good but only pick Price Pfister for the design - Not Quality.
Do not pick Pearless, is made by delta as an economy brand and has plastic valves.
Fictures ( toilets & sinks ). Lowes: Kohler or American Standard. They have special ordering but plenty of stock in these items. Kohler Wellworth is a good basic toilet and Cadet3 from American Standard is too. Crane is ok for sinks and toilets if your outfitting a rental property, but not for your own home.
OK, tubs and showers. Lowes : Sterling by Kohler, they have a better stronger formula for thier acrylic tub and shower units, go to thier web site and see. Also they are easyer to install and the panels of the wall sets interlock so you don't get water leakage. Stay away from Aqua Glass Acrylic units ( gell coat fiberglass from Aqua Glass is fine ) but the acrylic units break all the time because of cheeper formula and awfull packaging. If you pick Aqua Glass because of asthetics then DO NOT leave the store with out having them open the boxes and checking for broken or chipped pannels.
No matter what product you bring home, if the project isn't being done for ANY length of time where the stuff will be sitting there open all boxes and packeges as soon as they get home, your contractor will be pretty upset to open a box the day he is supposed to install this stuff just to find a broken toilet or missing part ! And MAY CHARGE YOU to come back or delay the project.
Special orders are avail both from homies and lowes, sit down and check out thier catalogues, also any companys they supply from have web sites, you can bring them model numbers you find on line and they can usually order below retail prices.
Also DO NOT wait to the last second and walk in thinking your gonna find what you want !
Reasurch research research and order and purchase WELL before this project is due to begin. I am a professional in the field and have known people to go with out toilets, showers, or had a finnished remodeled bathroom waiting only for a vanity for months because they ordered something and thaught it would be there when it was supposed to be there.
Shower doors are famouse for this, try to get a shower door special ordered with out coming in brooken and having to be re ordered. Vanitys like to come in broken too.
Get a print out of exactly what you ordered, lowes can do this both from thier M2O ordering system and Genisis DOS system. Do not go by what they say, read the printout to be sure that they ordered the correct thing .
Also, some sales associates don't know so I'll tell you. Anything you want they can call thier suppliers and inquire about, go there M-F 8-5 and these companys are open and glad to answere questions over the phone and find products that are not in catologes etc., prices, lead times, all avail by a phone call. Lowes also has a hotline avail to thier associats so they can call and get vendors phone #'s and ordering info. 700-658-2700 ( only works from thier instore phone ) so if they are green or something get them to use that #.
Aside from lowes and homies you can usually find bargains at local suppliers, they will usually have returned or disscontinued murchandise for sale at great discounts, bigger/busier the supplier the more stuff they may have, a buddie of mine made a customers house look a million by finding a beautifull new wood door complete with side lights and the glass light above door for only 1100 bucks ( 3000 dollars worth of doorage ). So ask around, any seasoned contractor will know where to go. Check the phone book and paper and go see there places, cirtain things will be cheeper by default at lowes or homies but you may be surpriesed at what you can find if your will ing to do some homework.
DO NOT order your own windows, let you contractor do that. I know a contractor who charged extra labor because the customer got the windows off another contractors measurements and they were wrong ! They saved nothing ! Another ordered the wrong type of windowes and the contractor had to charge to remove the siding on the home to install them. They also spent more not less .
OK, I think you can get it from there, good luck !
