It sounds like your mom is a little conservative and chose a rather subdued colour as a safe bet. When it comes to trying to open some one's mind to more daring colour schemes, pictures will speak volumes where your verbal attempts fail.
You need to go to your local paint store ( Home Depot, etc.) where you will find tons of pamphlets by various paint brands that show "ready made" colour schemes illustrated in photographs, complete with the paint chips specifying the colour numbers for you to order. Pick your favourite schemes and present your case, but make sure she feels she's involved in the final selections, not pressured into them. Perhaps find some that include, or may go with the tan she's already chosen. .Some of the tan could stay in certain areas, and could be worked into your new scheme. I would never recommend painting ALL the walls in a home one colour only ( red or tan), but you could certainly work both into
a new scheme.
Most people can't visualize using colour in their homes, hence the conservative choices. Once she sees a picture of how a certain colour can be used in a space, she may feel better about taking a chance.
You may also look for computerized colour selection offered in many stores. This computer program allows the customer to go to the store, pick paint colours and on a computer, view a room "painted" in their selections. You can mix and match and play around for a while, testing your choices. You can also buy your own program for around $15, and do it at home.
Lastly, you should offer to do the repainting as an added incentive! Good luck.
Buy the paint and repaint it yourself. But be prepared for an A** chewing and be ready to paint it again...also at your expense. :-)
Maybe you could say something like, "you know, red would make a great accent wall" or "it would really 'pop' in here if you used red as an accent". Use some interior decorating lingo ; )
since itz your mom's house and she must likes the tannish color, you probably cain't but u mite convince her to paint just one wall red or another color that coordinates with the decor in various rooms in your home.
