I am looking to buy a chop saw just for some small projects. Which should I look at?

Any of the major brands will be fine. Look for one that has positive stops at the major angles, 0, 22.5, 30, 45. I'd suggest going with a 10 inch compound than just a chop saw or an 8 inch. The bigger blade lets you cut up to a 4x4 or a 2x8, and the compound capability makes angled joints way easier.
I have a Hitachi that works very well. As the first person said, Dewalt and Milwaukee are very nice too.
Dewalt and Milwaukee
Best buys, and most dependable.
Check at Lowes and Home Depot. Decide what the largest size of material you will be cutting is before buying.
I have 5 miter saws. The one I most use is a 12" Dewalt. I have done new construction interior and exterior trim with this saw. It has proven to be a very valuable tool. I use it for many other things trim. This saw new sells for around $299 at Lowes or Depot.
