Need to know how to attach a ledger board for a deck to the house.?
Question:I need to know if I can attach a ledger board for my deck over my aluminum siding? That would be with out cutting any of it away. I could compensate for the bevels on the siding with aluminum washers as spacers between the board and the siding. Please let me know if this has been done before? Also any pros or cons?

I would say anything is possible. Just make sure you attach it through and TO the house - not just on the siding... Use extra long screws!!
I know my x husband has a friend who build a deck off his garage (vinyl siding) and he didn't make damn sure the screws were into the garage...
They got 3 big hefty guys up on it, drinking and partying... and the damn thing fell down! 2 men hospitalized, one broken leg.
The owner wasn't one of the guys hurt - He was on the ground laughing it up at the expense of the 3 fallers.
So. Be careful!! DO use braces and everything else you need!!
If you have a Lowes or Home Depot - go there and ask MANY QUESTIONS!!
Good luck!! Want to build me one next? LOL

This is a dangerous approach. The road to catastrophic failure as this is how many fatalities with decks start. Get a book from a home center on how to do a deck or get a pro to help you.

it's best if you can leave the siding but as you tighten your lags the siding will crush. if you decide that you want to leave the siding use a 2x4 under each ridge there's probably two you have to mess with and bolt them to the house first then take your ledger and bolt it to the 2x4s this should take you past the ridges
