What is the best way to hang shelves on drywall that can support a lot of weight?
Question:I'm going to be hanging shelves to store CD's using a system with metal standards and a total of 8 shelves. The studs are not in the proper place and I will need to mount the standards/rails into the drywall. What is the best way to do this in order for the system to support the very heavy weight of what will be close to 400 CD's?
Answers:
you should find a place that has studs...thats alot of weight for just drywall
Either install wood blocking behind the drywall or get a finished piece of 3/4" plywood with trimmed edges and surface mount directly to your drywall fastening to your studs
My advice is to install a 1x4 HORIZONTALLY at the height where you would attach the shelving to the wall. Installing a horizontal piece of wood gives you the flexibility to place the shelf regardless of stud location.
I know of no fastening system that enables 1/2" drywall to support 400 CDs.
put it on the stud thingy or do you know what a stud is?
